US flat products imports fall 7% in November

Based on reported import licenses, US flat products imports dropped 7% from 429,000 short tons in October (according to preliminary census figures) to 398,000 short tons in November. This can be compared to 641,000 tons of imports in November 2008.

Canada steel shipments 2007

Statistics Canada has just released the November 2007 monthly steel shipment report. Shipments of steel mill products by Canadian mills were just shy of 13.7 million metric tonnes through November. This is very similar to 2006, when shipments through November were slightly above 13.7 million metric tonnes.

US Steel’s acquisition of Stelco – what did US Steel pay?

The attached spreadsheet has a quick analysis of what US Steel paid, in total and $/ton of capacity. Most news reports seem to include only the cost of Stelco equity, this spreadsheet adds in the assumed debt.
