Week’s Raw Steel Production

In the week ending February 12, 2011, domestic
raw steel production was 1,809,000 net tons while the capability
utilization rate was 74.8 percent. Production was 1,720,000
tons in the week ending February 12, 2010, while the capability
utilization then was 71.1 percent. The current week production
represents a 5.2 percent increase from the same period in

the previous year. Production for the week ending February 12, 2011
is up 1.1 percent from the previous week
ending February 5, 2011 when production was 1,789,000 tons and the
rate of capability utilization was 74.0 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through February 12, 2011 was
10,844,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 73.0 percent.
That is a 11.8 percent increase from the 9,701,000 tons during the
same period last year, when the capability utilization rate
was 67.5 percent.

Broken down by districts, here’s production for the week
ending February 12, 2011 in thousands of net tons: Northeast
Coast: 87; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 129; Lake Erie: 44; Detroit: 99;
Indiana/Chicago: 432; Midwest: 290; Southern: 641 and Western:
87.
