Week’s Raw Steel Production

In the week ending February 27, 2010, domestic
raw steel production was 1,668,000 net tons while the capability
utilization rate was 69.0 percent. Production was 1,064,000
tons in the week ending February 27, 2009, while the capability
utilization then was 45.5 percent. The current week production
represents a 56.8 percent increase from the same period
in the previous year. Production for the week ending February 20,
2010 is up 0.5 percent from the previous week
ending February 20, 2010 when production was 1,660,000 tons and the

rate of capability utilization was 68.6 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through February 27, 2010 was
13,269,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 66.2 percent.
That is a 42.6 percent increase from the 8,604,000 tons during the
same period last year, when the capability utilization rate
was 43.9 percent.

Broken down by districts, here’s production for the week
ending February 27, 2010 in thousands of net tons: Northeast Coast:

144; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 112; Lake Erie: 44; Detroit: 119;
Indiana/Chicago: 405; Midwest: 233; Southern: 535 and Western:
76.
