This Week’s Raw Steel Production

In the week ending January 9, 2010, domestic
raw steel production was 1,525,000 net tons while the capability
utilization rate was 63.9 percent. Production was 1,016,000
tons in the week ending January 9, 2009, while the capability
utilization then was 42.6 percent. The current week production
represents a 50.1 percent increase from the same period
in the previous year. Production for the week ending January 9,
2010 is up 3.9 percent from the previous week
ending January 2, 2010 when production was 1,468,000 tons and the
rate of capability utilization was 61.5 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through January 9, 2010 was
1,945,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 63.4 percent.
That is a 48.7 percent increase from the 1,306,000 tons during the
same period last year, when the capability utilization rate
was 42.6 percent.

Broken down by districts, here’s production for the week
ending January 9, 2010 in thousands of net tons: Northeast Coast:
138; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 101; Lake Erie: 46; Detroit: 109;
Indiana/Chicago: 397; Midwest: 194; Southern: 467 and Western:
73.

raw steel production was 1,468,000 net tons while the capability
utilization rate was 61.5 percent. Production was 987,000 tons

in the week ending January 2, 2010, while the capability
utilization then was 41.4 percent. The current week production
represents a 48.7 percent increase from the same period
in the previous year. Production for the week ending January 2,
2010 is up 1.6 percent from the previous week
ending December  26, 2009 when production was 1,445,000 tons
and the rate of capability utilization was 60.6 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through January 2, 2010 was
1,468,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 61.5 percent.
That is a 48.7 percent increase from the 987,000 tons during the
same period last year, when the capability utilization rate
was 41.4 percent.

Broken down by districts, here’s production for the week
ending January 2, 2010 in thousands of net tons: Northeast Coast:
142; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 105; Lake Erie: 40; Detroit: 111;

domestic raw steel production was 1,445,000 net tons while the
capability utilization rate was 60.6 percent. Production was
975,000 tons in the week ending December 26, 2008, while the
capability utilization then was 40.9 percent. The current week
production represents a 48.2 percent increase from the
same period in the previous year. Production for the week
ending December 26, 2009 is down 2.3 percent from the
previous week ending December 19, 2009 when production was
1,479,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization
was 62.0 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through December 26, 2009 was
62,802,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 51.2 percent.
That is a 37.0 percent decrease from the 99,561,000 tons during the

same period last year, when the capability utilization rate
was 81.4 percent.

Broken down by districts, here’s production for the week
ending December 26, 2009 in thousands of net tons: Northeast Coast:

139; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 93; Lake Erie: 44; Detroit: 93;

capability utilization rate was 62.0 percent. Production was
975,000 tons in the week ending December 19, 2008, while the
capability utilization then was 40.9 percent. The current week
production represents a 51.7 percent increase from the
same period in the previous year. Production for the week
ending December 19, 2009 is down 4.4 percent from the
previous week ending December 12, 2009 when production was
1,547,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization
was 64.9 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through December 19, 2009 was
63,357,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 51.0 percent.
That is a 35.7 percent decrease from the 98,586,000 tons during the

same period last year, when the capability utilization rate
was 81.4 percent.

Broken down by districts, here’s production for the week
ending December 19, 2009 in thousands of net tons: Northeast Coast:

135; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 84; Lake Erie: 47; Detroit: 79;
